26/10/2009 : Upgrades Scarlet Datacenter

Because of the previous power outages, Scarlet has been upgrading the power supply in the datacenter significantly. Thanks to these upgrades they can provide us again with the known stability that we got used to for so many years.

26/7/2009 : Power Outage Scarlet

This morning around 8h30 our engineers determined a power outage in the Scarlet datacenter. A maintenance was scheduled that according to earlier announcements from Scarlet was not supposed to cause a service interruption. Around 10 AM we received an official announcement from Scarlet that something went wrong in the first phase of the scheduled maintenance and that the datacenter would be suffering a power outage until 5 PM. In the mean time we heard from unofficial sources that Scarlet would try to perform the maintenance that was scheduled the next following weeks, avoiding possible future outages the next couple of weeks. The access to the datacenter was also denied to customers and suppliers.

In the mean time the power in the datacenter is back online and our engineers are in the process of booting up the servers. We regret this series of events but do hope that this maintenance is the solution to the Scarlet power problem.

Never loose your data again! With the GhostYou Online Backup Service you automatically make backups of your files through internet. Your data is stored secure at HostYou and easy to recover.

To garantee this safety there is also a McAfee SECURE and PCI Compliant certificate for the GhostYou Servers active. Daily these servers are now checked by McAfee and that way we can always offer the best security for your confidential files.

So your data is saved 100% safe, and you can always recover your files at any location. This recover you can do with the on your computer installed GhostYou Online Backup Manager (OBM), but also on other computers with the Web Interface. One of the many advantages of GhostYou is that you cannot only make an online backup, but also local to for example an external disc or a network location. That way you can backup important documents online, and of the giant photo collection that is impossible to upload through your internet line you make a local backup. You can do this by making different backup schemes.

29/4/2009 : Power Failure Scarlet

The Scarlet datacenter in Vilvoorde currently experiences a power failure. Our engineers are on-site to bring the servers back online asap when the power is available again.

Update (19:20): Scarlet confirmed they experience a power failure

Update (19:45): Our engineers are headed to the datacenter, ETA: 19:55

Update (19:46): We heard that the Diesel generator is malfunctioning and the backup generator is being prepared to replace it right now

Update (20:08): Our engineers have arrived at 19:45, the datacenter still has no power. Scarlet engineers are busy bringing the generators back up.

Update (19:37): The backup generator startup is failing, a technical team from the generators vendor is on the road, no concrete timing for a resolution is known yet.

Update (21:27): The technical team has arrived, they suspect the power to be back up around 21:45

Update (21:31): The power is back

Update (21:32): The HostYou engineers are booting all servers.

Update (21:40): All HostYou servers came back online without any problem

You can use this online applicatie to easily upload and download files to and from your Web Hosting without having to install a FTP program on your PC/MAC. Files can also be edited online, compressed (zip), and compressed files (zip) can be unpacked. With the WYSIWYG editor even web pages can be easily edited or created.
You have access to this application through http://webftp. with your FTP account.
Additional FTP users can be created with the HostYou Control Panel.
Off course this function is only available for customers with a Web Hosting at HostYou.

13/2/2009 : Free counter with each Web Hosting package

No longer use the external applications to display a counter on your website, they only slow down your website and show commercial popups, plus you send all the data about your web traffic to others.
With HostYou you et a free multifunctional counter constructed from your own log files and therefor 100% reliable. In the Control Panel you can set up how you want your counter to look, and then you just need to place the code that is automatically generated for you on your website to show your own personal counter.

5/2/2009 : Hostings with PHP 5 and MySQL

Starting today the new Web Hostings will have standard PHP 5 and MySQL 5.
It was already possible in the past to switch live in the Control Panel between PHP 4 and 5, and create MySQL 4 and 5 databases on our MySQL Servers.
Off course PHP 4 and MySQL 4 will still be available, and as always you will have full control about what you use in the HostYou Control Panel.

27/1/2009 : Beware of false overdue payment reminders

HostYou, the media and DNS BE alert for this false reminder. Certainly don't agree to this proposition, if you are interested to register extra domains, take a look on our website for the correct prices of these international extentions, being €13,99 per domain. In the past similar things have already happened, back then with a company called "Domain Registry of America".

The official text of DNS BE :

DNS BE has recently been contacted by several .be domain name holders who received a payment reminder from the company NMG (Network Mediagroup) from London.

This reminder suggests that the domain name holder has ordered his domain name to be registered in different other extensions (e.g. .com/.net/.org). The company requests the domain name holder to settle what looks like an invoice. In fact the .be domain name holder never ordered these extensions, neither have they been registered.

DNS BE advises the .be domain name holders to ignore this 'reminder'. However, if the .be domain name holder is interested in having the extensions offered, DNS BE strongly recommends that it contact its usual registrar, which will then try and register the required extensions directly or through a reliable third party, charging the proper fee established in advance.

The registration of .me domain names is since today possible for everybody. The .me tld is assigned to Montenegro by the ICANN, and is now available for the public.

9/5/2008 : HostYou servers as always in top condition!

All software on our servers stays up2date. We're doing all we can to install all new versions on our Mail-, Backup-, MySQL-, Processing- and Hosting-servers. We can insure our customers they have secure programs with full potential at their disposal.

There's a new server on the HostYou network : a new ultra-fast hostingserver.

We're sure we can meet with the requirements of our customers with all installed modules. (PHP4, PHP5, MySQL4, MySQL5, Python, Perl, AspUpload, AspEmail, AspPdf, AspJpeg, Asp, Asp .NET, enz).

Web/Ftp- statistics and databasequery's will be processed on other machines, what will give our customers the certainty there website will always be rappidly and stable.

18/1/2008 : Prices on our website now VAT inclusive.

The Federal Public Service of Economy, SMEs, independent Professions and Energy obliged the hosting sector to show all prices including 21% VAT on their Internet websites. When companies ignore this request, they can be punished with fines up to 250.000 Euro.

All prices on our website are now indicated including 21% VAT. During the order procedure, details concerning the total, the net and the gross price (with possible discounts) are shown synoptically. The VAT will still be clear. HostYou BVBA is one of the first hosting service providers following these clear instructions.

1/1/2008 : Lowered domain prices for .BE and .EU

HostYou gives 2008 a good start and lowers his domain prices again : .BE from €4,83 per year, with a default price of €14,51, and .EU from €6,04 per year, with a default price of €15,72. In this price a complete domain management is included, you can always manage your nameservers live and if you use the Hostyou nameservers, you can manage these A/MX/CNAME records.

Our Dutch customers can pay from now on online with iDEAL: like that they can pay with the banks ABN AMRO, Postbank, Rabobank and SNS Bank.
Also we have introduced a new range of Mail Hostings. From time to time we got the question from our customers for a package without webspace, to just have email addresses on their domain. That's why we introduced these packages, with off course our very efficient Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus protection.

28/2/2007 : Dedicated MySQL Servers

Our Hosting Servers again became a lot more performant!
Previously we had already chosen to parse the statistics on a dedicated server, now we have added again 2 power machines to our network : a MySQL 4 and a MySQL 5 server. They are going to take over all the databases from our Hosting Servers.

Has someone beat you registering your personal domainname (i.e your lastname, companyname,...)? No problem! HostYou will alert you when your favorite domain will be available. In your control panel, you can add the domains that interest you to a WatchDog list. Even better : If you order the domain and we received your payment, we'll register the name as soon he's available.
